#513: PAIR OF EDWARDIAN CARVED GILTWOOD TUB-BACK BERGERES
Each curved back with leaf-bound reeded rail continuing
around into the armrests, the bow-fronted seat above floral
garlands and fluted front legs, stamped ER (Edward VIII);
30 x 24 in. Provenance: H.M. Queen Alexandra (1844-1925),
consort of Edward VII of England. Queen Alexandra was considered
one of the most beautiful and fashionable women in Europe.
In 1907, the Danish born queen and her sister the Dowager
Empress of Russia purchased a villa, Hvidore, near Copenhagen,
furnishing it with pieces of their respective royal homes.
These chairs passed into private hands prior to the sale
of Hvidore in 1925.
