Lot #1103: AMERICAN SCHOOL: A PAIR OF PROFILE PORTRAITS
Pastel on paper, each, 7 3/4 x 5 7/8 in. (sight). Note: according to family legend, the gentleman depicted is Elisha Jenkins, created a scandal in Albany, NY in 1807, when he questioned Solomon Van Renssalaer's honesty, which caused a riot. He was mayor of Albany from 1816-1819 and went on to serve in the State Senate. This portrait, however, does not appear to be the same gentleman depicted on the NY State Museum website. Provenance: The Estate of Fred F. and Lois K. Rogers.
