London, 1778. First edition, 4TO, 2 volumes. 25 plates (1 folding), 12 portraits, 14 maps (10 folding). Contemporary 1/2 calf (needs rebinding). Some offsetting from plates; frontis with a corner fold. Pages 595 - 596 torn with no loss. Scattered foxing. Plates in fine condition. A very scarce American history with important plates and maps. Includes portrait of Benjamin Franklin and Washington; a View of NYC, Mexico City, Quebec, Florida, Indiana, et cetera. Maps include the World, New England, New York and the Southern Colonies. The appendix is a revolutionary War history to 1778. Despite its shabby binding - a worthwhile and finely illustrated early American history.
