Perry's Aïda, the heroine of Verdi's new opera of the same name is the subject of an ideal head just painted by Ione H. Perry, and now on exhibition at Goupil's Gallery." It goes on to say that the painting was inspired by Aïda's aria in the temple in act 3 that begins "O azure heavens!" and expresses the heroine's desire to return to Ethiopia. The review concludes "The sentiment is embodied in the picture with a degree of spirituality and grace characteristic of the artist of "Called by the Angels' and 'Heavenward.' The drawing is good and the coloring rich and harmonious. The work, as a whole, is decided improvement in execution over the artist's previous productions and will have an especial interest for many who have been interested in the new opera."
