Inscribed on the front free endpaper "For Jules and Joyce and also Joan with love John Steinbeck" below his signature Steinbeck drew a "flying pig". Jules Buck was a movie producer; he and Steinbeck co-wrote a screenplay for Elia Kazan's "Viva Zapata". He co-founded "Keep Films" with Peter O'Toole and produced most of the O'Toole's films from 1960 - 1975. He also produced an early Marilyn Monroe film "Love Nest" (1951) and "Fixed Bayonet" (1951), probably the first film that James Dean appeared in. Despite the shabby dust jacket, this is a scarce inscribed Steinbeck with a fine association.
