Unusual slate sundial, of square form with bronze gnomon, calibrated with months, hours and cities of the world for Latitude 50/51 North, together with quotations in Latin and from the Bible, the four corners with separate dials, gnomons calibrated for "Morning New York," "Afternoon Alexandria," "Evening Island of Borneo" and "Night New Zealand," signed "Richard Melvyn, Maker to (the Crystal Palace) and date (obscured), London," 15 in. square. Richard Melvyn was active in making sundials from 1843-51 in Scotland, England and Ireland.
