Lots 231 through 240 are from the estate of a New York collector whose property has sold for millions of dollars at auction over the last decade.  Most of this painting collection was purchased in Europe between 1930 and 1970 and believed to be authentic by the purchaser. Over the years, the property was vetted by numerous specialists who deemed the works spurious. Many of these paintings are copies after known works in public and private collections and all of the paintings should be viewed as decorative rather than fine art. We wish to remind you that you are bidding at your own risk and that none of these lots are guaranteed by Stair Galleries. After consulting The Art Loss Register (www.artloss.com), we have decided that lots 231-240 in our auction of June 10th, 2011 will be recorded as “spurious” (ie. fake) in their archives.
