Toshi Katayama is a self-taught artist and designer. In
1963, he became Art Director for the Swiss corporation Geigy.
After three years in Europe, he received an invitation to
teach and design at Harvard's Carpenter Center for the Visual
Arts; he was eventually named director of the center. He
has mounted more than 30 solo exhibitions. Katayama is very
interested in art in architectural spaces, including murals,
landscape designs, and sculptures. This piece was purchased
from the artist.

of Fine Arts, Boston, the Cantor Center for Visual Arts at
Stanford University, and the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
His work is included in the collections of the Museum of
Modern Art, the Whitney, the Metropolitan Museum of Art,
and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, among others.

ELIPSE"
Acrylic on canvas, 60 x 66 in., signed, titled and dated 1977
on verso.
Chuck O'Connor studied at Pratt and the New York Studio
School. He has had forty solo and group exhibitions since
1970, when as a Fulbright Fellow he showed at the U.S. Embassy
in Rome. He has also been awarded fellowships by the Louis
Comfort Tiffany Foundation, the NY State Council on the Arts
and the McDowell Colony. His work is part of the collections
of the Corcoran, the Montclair Art Museum (New Jersey), the
Weatherspoon Art Gallery (University of North Carolina at
Greensboro), and the International Media Institute (Seoul,
South Korea).
