#223: KAZUKO INOUE (XX - XXI): UNTITLED
Acrylic on canvas, 30 1/4 x 30 1/4 in., signed and dated
1985 on verso.
The
website artcal.net wrote that "Inoue's
work bridges the territory between early abstraction and
Suprematism with
its focus on a higher spiritual plane, the expressive qualities
of painting explored by mid-century Abstract Expressionism,
and the importance of the grid and rational structure emphasized
by the Minimalists. Her paintings are at once lyrical and
austere, subtle and shocking. Seemingly simple and straightforward,
upon closer visual inspection, they reveal themselves as
veritable archaeological sites of colors and process."
Note: "Kazuko Inoue Intersections" is
on view at the Allan Stone Gallery, 113 East 90th St.,
New York,
NY May 10-June 30, 2006. Her work is in The Aldrich Contemporary
Art Museum and The Newark Museum.
