Born and trained in Amsterdam, Peter Ruting developed a successful commercial practice before beginning to emphasize fine art photography in the 1970's. Since then he has shown work at top galleries in the Netherlands as well as elsewhere in Europe and the United States. His book "The Images of Thought," with an introduction by Stuart Bennett, was published in 1988.

Lot #236: JAMES MIHO (b. 1933): QUARKS II
Stainless steel, colored wire and paint construction in a plexiglass box, 10 x 14 1/2 x 4 in., signed and dated 1987.

The art director, design educator and artist James Miho is best known for his work on the infamous "Great Ideas of Western Man" campaign for the Container Corporation of America which paired timeless quotes with contemporary images, creating tensions that kept the campaign relevant. It was Miho's idea to use the works of Pop artists Andy Warhol and Larry Rivers. In 1996 he moved to Seoul to serve as the chair of multimedia design at Innovative Design Labs of Samsung.
