London, no date. 8VO, 2 volumes. 72 handcolored plates of birds, insects, shells, etc. Half green morocco; gilt spine with two birds, a butterfly and a shell. Donovan published the Naturalist's in 5 volumes from 1823-27. These volumes are reprints of Volumes 1 & 2. Provenance: Property of a Lady.

One-quarter mococco over marbled boards. The butterflies and insects take on human qualities in the style of Grandville. Provenance: Property of a Lady.

Not in British Museum Library; not in Library of Congress; no auction records (ABPC) since at least 1975 and no copies for sale online. Contains tips on bird hunting, dog training and gastronomic hints.

Paris, Gilles Blaizat, 1644. First edition, 4TO. Contemporary binding; manuscript paper spine label; binding shabby. An important scientific work. Digby discusses divisible atoms, defends Harvey's theory of circulation of the blood and the first printed account of the use of sign language for the deaf.

Lot #8: NEW YORK YANKEES: 1961 SIGNED TEAM BASEBALL - TWENTY-FOUR SIGNATURES, SPALDING BASEBALL WITH "YANKEES" STAMP
Two small scuffs, one affecting Joe DeMaestri's, the other Tony Kubek. Last two letters of Mantle's signature are under Gonder's and Whitey Ford's signatures.

In 1961, the Yankees were world champions. Roger Maris hit 61 home runs; Mickey Mantle hit 54 home runs; Whitey Ford was 25-4; Ralph Terry was 16-3. The only significant player not on the ball is Moose Skowron. Mantle's may be a club house signature.

Lot #9: BABE RUTH - BASEBALL SIGNED
Circa 1926. Official American League baseball signed by B.B. Johnson. Babe Ruth signed on the "sweet spot," Mickey Cochran signed just below Ruth. Many other signatures on the ball, most are Philadelphia Athletics, e.g. Slim Harris and Bing Miller. Ball is slightly browned with a few scuffs.
