This anti-slavery novel was an early precursor to "Uncle
Tom's Cabin". Bound in 3/4 brown morocco by Root. Minor

YANKEE IN KING ARTHUR'S COURT" NY (WEBSTER) 1889. FIRST
EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, LARGE 8VO
First issue of Twain's science fiction novel. Issue points:
(1) Page 59 - "S" like figure betweeen words "The
King". (2) Page 72 - last two lines with perfect type.
(3) 1/2 title on verso of frontis. These three points together,
especially the 1/2 title, are very rare. BINDING - Full Seal
Russia. Seal Russia is calf skin treated to look like morocco.
The chemical and heat treatment leaves the leather brittle
and chemically unstable. Surviving copies in this kind of
leather are quite rare and usually found in terrible condition.
(Kevin MacDonnell) This copy has a 1" chip at top of
spine and chip at bottom. Corners have some loss and 2" separation
on lower front gutter. Shelf wear on bottom of binding. Spine
lettering bright as are both boards. Front floral endpapers
are split at the gutter making front board loose. Gift inscription
on front free endpaper.
