Rev. Jesse Head's copy - with his signature in the spine,
front board and front paste down. The Rev. Jesse Head, a
Methodist minister, officiated at the wedding of Thomas Lincoln
and Nancy Hanks, Abraham Lincoln's parents. Ink notation
on title page: "Presented to Mr. William H. Townsend
by the great-great-grand daughter of Jesse Head Grace Lismey
Hutton - December 4th, 1944. For his Collection of Lincolniana." Housed
in slip case.

DOCUMENT SIGNED" MARCH 20, 1775 - 4 X 8 1/2"
Joseph Warren - a leading patriot before and during the Revolution.
Dispatched Paul Revere and William Dawes to Lexington to
warn of the British approach. In 1775 was President Mass.
of the Provincial Congress and in June 1775 was commissioned
a Major General. Killed at the Battle of Bunker Hill - 6/17/1775.
A bill dated 3/20/1775 from Azor Orne to Warren for wine
and oil. Warren endorsed the document on the verso. Framed
and matted with Kenneth W. Rendell description.

#86: WHALING LOG - SHIP NIANTIC - WHALING VOYAGE FROM
SAG HARBOR, L.I., N.Y. - JUNE 4, 1844 TO JANUARY, 1847. JOURNAL
KEPT BY ROBERT HALSENS. TALL 4TO
72 pages - all in black ink. Voyage from Sag Harbor, Cape
Verde, Africa, New Zealand, Society Islands, Sandwich, around
Cape Horn to Bolivia, Brazil, San Salvador to Sandy Hook
- a 32 month voyage. 51 whale stamps in black ink; 8 of the
51 sunk. Last few pages have verse, anecdotes, humorous poetry
and chanties. Apparently this was the Niantic's only whaling
voyage. In 1849 the ship carried passengers to San Francisco
for the Gold Rush. On arrival the crew deserted. The owner
ordered the ship run aground. It was used as a warehouse
until 1851 when it burned. The site is designated as California
Historical Landmark #88. Pieces of the ship are in the San
Francisco Maritime Museum. Marbled paper boards (chipped);
leather spine. Housed in a cloth slipcase.

Check signed "Wright Brothers" and initialed "W.W." Made
out to "The Harvard Boston Aviation Meet" for $500.
The meet was the first major air event on the east coast.
Attended by the Wrights, Glenn Curtis and Grahame White.
The meet ran from 9/3 - 13,1910. One of the objectives was
to show the possibilities of the aeroplane as an offensive
war weapon. Framed and matted with a photo of a Wright plane
in flight.

MERCHANTS IN NYC
1804 -1807 - A few letters from Antigua from an English officer
- describes trouble with French fleet. 1810-1812 - letters
to and from London and Paris. Many letters mention problems
with shipments, boardings by the English Navy, problems the
English are having with Napoleon. An interesting look at
the period.
