Letter to the music critic Wilhelm Tappert concerning his 4th symphony (Romantic Symphony). This symphony was Bruckner's first great success; first finished in 1874, revised in 1878 and revised again in 1880/81. The premier of this version occured in 1881 in Vienna under the direction of conductor Hans Richter.
