Pencil and watercolor on paper, 30 x 39 1/2 in. (image), signed lower right: J. F. Hugé, Bridgeport, Conn. 1872. Provenance: The painting depicting the William L. Peck in a race, was a gift from the artist to Joseph Titus Bunce, and has descended in his family. The ship was built at Cold Spring Harbor by John Bennett and launched in 1867. The family believes the mahogany frame and gilt liner to be original. The picture hung in the dining room of the Bunce homestead on Goose Hill Road until 2006.
