Lot #71A: GEORGE WASHINGTON COMMEMORATIVE PRINT ON LINEN
Print in colors on linen, 23 1/2 x 17 in. (sight). Washington is holding a letter stating: "Victory is ours/Paul Jones." (On Sept., 23, 1779, the Bon Homme Richard defeated the British ship Serapis in the North Sea.) Note: another example of this piece (dated circa 1830) was featured in The Magazine Antiques, July 1948 and another example was sold by Stair Galleries, April 3, 2004, lot 61.
