Lot #22: AMERICAN GOTHIC REVIVAL MAHOGANY FOLD-TOP CARD TABLE, POSSIBLY J. & J.W. MEEKS, NEW YORK
The rectangular top with hinged leaf over cavetto apron above concave-sided standard with ogee arches supported by hexagonal corner columns, above shaped plinth, on hexagonal feet; 29 1/4 x 36 x 18 in. (36 in. open). Note: This card table is similar to a Late Classical mahogany center table bearing the paper label of J. & J.W. Meeks, now in the collections of the New York State Museum. The labeled Meeks table, like the card table, features a standard with concave panels surmounted by arches supported by corner columns (see John L. Scherer, New York Furniture at the New York State Museum, 1984, p. 75).
