Oil on canvas, 30 x 25 in., relined. John Milton Earle (1794-1874) was a Massachusetts native. He was an editor and publisher and an early pioneer in the anti-slavery movement. He was Representative to the general court n 184401846 and 1850-1852. He was elected to the State Senate in 1858. He was also a state commissioner on Indian affairs and founder of the Horticultural society.
