ET REPRESENTÉE EN FIGURES", PARIS, 1719-1724
15 volumes, folio. (10 volumes plus 5 supplement volumes).
1374 plates, some double page and some folding. A monumental
undertaking, Montflaucon set out to reproduce and methodically
group all the ancient monuments that might be of use in the
study of religion, domestic custom, material life, military
institution, and funeral rites of the ancients. 1800 copies
were produced. This set in contemporary full brown calf.
Some rubs and chips but a sturdy binding. A few pages stained,
but overall plates and text are crisp and bright.

Large folio. 71 full page engraved plates, most of bronze
busts; (two are folding plates of ships). 72 partial page
engravings, and numerous engraved initials. This was the
attempt to document the oldest excavations of Pompeii, Herculaneum,
and the surrounding area. Bound in full contemporary calf,
rubbed.

IONIA - PUBLISHED BY THE SOCIETY OF DILETTANTE", LONDON,
1821, 1797, 1840, 1881
2nd edition of volume one, 1st edition of volumes two, three,
and four. Four volumes, large folio. Three engraved titles,
16 partial page plates, 209 full page views, architectural
renderings, maps and plans (one double page). Volumes 2 and
3 are bound in original paper covered boards. Spine of volume
1 is new, volumes 2 and 3 have original spines (chipped), volume
4 is bound in 1/2 red morocco over green cloth. The first edition
of volume 1 was 1769, this 1821 edition of volume 1 has considerable
additions and corrections. A fifth volume was published in
the 20th century. This work is an extraordinary record of architectural
antiquities. Very rare and not often offered for sale.
