1st edition, 4to. Engraved title (foxed), portrait, map and steel engravings after William H. Bartlett. Some foxing spots (mainly in margins). Bound in 3/4 green Morocco over marbled boards. Heavily gilt spines. Very nice copy.

Lot #133: (1 OF 100) "GALA (GROUP OF LATIN AMERICAN ARTISTS)"
A portfolio of six original color lithographs by six different Latin American artists. Best known artist is Enrique Riveron. Others are Baruj Salinas, Juan Sariana, Jose Maria Mijares, Rosana McAllister, Kelly and Osvaldo. All lithographs are signed and numbered by the artists. Large folio. Housed in a blue paper portfolio.

Lot #134: BEMELMANS, LUDWIG, 21 ORIGINAL INK AND WATERCOLOR DRAWINGS
1950, used in "Town and Country Magazine - 'Farewell to the Ritz'", a commemorative piece when the Ritz Carlton Hotel was demolished. Drawings are executed on graph paper measuring 8 1/2 x 10 1/4 in., (one is a double page that measures 8 1/2 x 19 1/4 in.). Some are cut and pasted together by the artist. Each of the drawings has the original captions with corrections in ink by Bemelmans. A biographical look at Bemelmans years at the Ritz. His well known characters are all represented: Mr. Harris the president; Monsieur Bonnafou, the baker; Chef Louis Diat; Cheeses Greiset (Bonnafou); Amodau, the Sengalese porter; Miss Cutting, his secretary; and his own progress through the Ritz. The last drawing shows a construction worker ready to use a sledge hammer. Wonderful insight into a great artist's mind and life. Consigned by a local person who worked for Bemelmans many years. Drawings given as a token of friendship and appreciation by the artist.

Watercolor illustration published in "Musical America", February 10, 1929. Measures 13 x 10 in. (sight). Rea Irvin was the "New Yorker" magazine's first art editor and created the first cover and many others. Most of his original art was donated to institutions and rarely comes on the market. Framed and matted.

Most are finished and are laid sown on album pages. Most are classic figures - the latest a sketch of Louis XIV. Unknown artist but sketches have text in French and are initialed B.Z.
