Inside River Ranch: View The Collection of Carole Harris in STAIR’s Commemorative Book
STAIR’s limited-edition publication, River Ranch: The Collection of Carole Harris, takes readers room by room and includes personal insights into the opulent California estate.

In preparation for the upcoming sale, River Ranch: The Collection of Carole Harris on June 17-19, STAIR has published a limited-edition book showcasing the opulent California estate in room-by-room detail. The commemorative book sheds a personal light on the collection with several dedications from those who worked closely with Mrs. Harris, such as recollections from Brian McCarthy of Parish-Hadley. The Louis XIV-style chateau was photographed insitu and highlights the collection and home as it was meticulously decorated by the Harrises.
A digital version of the book is also available to view online and can be enjoyed here.
“I remember vividly how certain she was about what she wanted and how determined she was to make sure it was exactly how she envisioned it.”
– Colin Stair

Colin Stair, President of STAIR, served as an advisor to Carole Harris and developed a close friendship with her that lasted decades. Stair celebrates the collection through his remembrance and begins the book with a personal aside, “River Ranch, Carole Harris’s beloved home for over thirty years, has always been a special place for me, as much for the beautiful things it housed as for the special person who lived there.”

The Breakfast Room at the River Ranch, featuring a trellised adobe wall decoration by Pat Hopper.
STAIR guides readers through River Ranch just as it feels to tour the home in person, with chapters naturally blending one room into the other. Various themes and carefully curated design choices are threaded throughout, with special treatment given to the famed ‘Coco Chanel Cabinet’ and a George I Gilt-Bottle Green Japanned Bureau-Cabinet, both of which are included in the upcoming auction.
STAIR is pleased to present the story of River Ranch and Carole Harris in celebration of this extraordinary collection.
