Property from the Estate of R.C. Bald Donated by Margaret J. Bald Sold to Benefit the Finger Lakes Land Trust including Chinese Works of Art, Emphera & Books in Asian Works of Art on December 8 at 11am

The generous gift of Margaret Bald to the Finger Lakes Land Trust is a testament to her belief in preservation of the region where her family established a home. As the daughter of prominent scholar and author Robert Cecil Bald, Margaret Bald had a rarified childhood. The Bald family travelled around the globe before finding their way to Cornell University and settling in Ithaca, NY. Intertwined with R.C. Bald’s great love of literature was his interest in the cultivation of landscapes and the acquisition of beautiful objects. His wife Beatrice had a passion for Asian works on art acquired on their travels. The family travelled through Asia, Europe and the United Kingdom collecting porcelain and Chinese works of Art. Beatrice kept diligent notes during this period acquiring many pieces between 1933 and 1938. Their daughter Margaret inherited not only their collection but also an interest in art, literature, and nature. Margaret lovingly preserved her parent’s legacy until her passing and Stair is honored to bring this important collection to auction with proceeds to benefit the Finger Lakes Land Trust.

Stair is pleased to feature two single owner sequences of the Margaret Bald Collection on December 8th and 15th.
