East Meets West: Works of Art Across Cultures

Spanning thousands of years, this sale focuses on Egyptian, Greek, Luristan, and Roman objects and works of art, complemented by artifacts from China, Thailand, Cambodia, India and Tibet. Highlights include a fine group of Egyptian objects from the estate of noted Egyptologist William Kelly Simpson, including a limestone relief, a basalt head of a man and an alabaster jar. A curated selection of ancient Greek material from a Distinguished Collector, including a limestone head possibly of Herakles, a terracotta torso of Aphrodite, and a bronze model of waterfowl, will also be included.

We are pleased to offer selections from The Collection of Tom Swope, Hudson, NY in this cross-category sale.  The Swope collection includes a variety of material from around the world,  including a Sui Dynasty silvered-bronze mirror from Matthias Komor, the esteemed antiquities dealer in New York. Also included is a group of archaic Chinese jades and early Chinese Buddhist sculpture, early Persian objects from the Patti Birch collection,  a Greek kylix, Egyptian artifacts, and Tang Dynasty figural pieces.

Other highlights in the sale include a variety of Chinese glazed objects and carved jades, a small group of pre-Columbian pottery,  Oceanic material, Tibetan thangkas and objects from Southeast Asia, Etruscan bronze objects, Roman glass, and Apulian pottery.
