The iconic and much-lauded American songwriting duo Alan and Marilyn Bergman brought the same harmony, point of view and personality to their art collection as they did to the music and lyrics they wrote for numerous celebrated film, stage and television productions. The Bergmans were honored with four Emmys, three Oscars and two Grammy awards as a testament to their talent and life-long partnership.
Both native New Yorkers, the couple lived a rarefied life in Los Angeles surrounded by beautiful things that brought together their East Coast roots and their life in the West Coast entertainment world. Fine art by American artists Robert Kulicke, Albert York, Gwen John and Davide Levine share the spotlight with works by French artists Pierre Bonnard, Edouard Vuillard and Pablo Picasso, creating a harmonious collection with specific themes that focus on portraiture, landscape and still life.
Complemented by decorative objects and a curated selection of memorabilia and ephemera, The Collection of Alan and Marilyn Bergman represents their special world and offers a glimpse into how they lived and what they chose to surround themselves with. Seen together, the collection is part of their legacy, telling the story of the Bergmans’ storied careers, their love and dedication to each other, and to the arts.
