DOUGLAS AND PRINCESS LEE: A FRIENDSHIP THROUGH THE YEARS

Douglas and Lee Radziwill had a many-year friendship bonded by their shared passion for good reads, movies, ballet, theater and well decorated rooms.

Lee entertained beautifully at her Paris apartments and Douglas and I visited her in the house she took on the Mediterranean next to the famed Hotel Il Pellicano in Tuscany, and when she rented Jacqueline de Ribes’s house in Corsica.

Douglas and Lee had a spirt of adventure.  Over the years, Lee traveled with us on various trips to Berlin, London, St. Petersburg and memorably to Angkor Wat when we stayed at the Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor where the bar featured photos of Jackie during her visit there in 1967.

Both Lee and Douglas had teamed with top designers over the years and Lee often joined us when we shopped for furniture on Pimlico or Lilly Road in London, the Paris flea markets and Isle-sur-la-Sorgue in the south of France.  Lee was a lively companion with great style.

Doug was a discerning collector of art and furniture.  When shopping he had a well-honed, quick eye.  He appreciated the great refined objects but also those with a poetic simplicity.
