Property from The Estate of William Kelly Simpson: Part III

On December 8th we are pleased to offer another curated selection of works from the Estate of William Kelly Simpson in our 20th Century, Modern & Contemporary Fine Art auction. Eminent Egyptologist, scholar and visionary collector, William Kelly Simpson amassed an extraordinary collection of paintings, works on paper, antiquities and porcelain that speak to his connoisseurship and his abiding love of the arts.  Mr. Simpson’s curatorial eye extended beyond his love of the antique to include modern and contemporary works of art by artists Paul Manes, James Fitzgerald, Michael Mazur and Bernhard Heiliger. Other highlights from this group are works on paper by Modern American artists Carl Sprinchorn, Marguerite Zorach, William Zorach, Donald  De Lue and Rolph Scarlett, as well as a fine group of works relating to the theatre by Eugene Berman, Anatoli Petrisky, Alvaro Guevara and Ralph Barton. Simpson was an avid collector of European Modernism, highlighted in this sale by a work attributed to André Derain and Raoul Dufy’s portrait of his wife.
